Transforming modern healthcare with seamless AV experiences
Challenge
Stavanger University Hospital needed robust, standardised AV technology across a vast new campus, supporting clinical workflows and patient comfort.
Solution
Kinly delivered AV solutions across 900 rooms, from meeting spaces and critical control rooms to an auditorium and patient-room TVs.
Result
SUS Ullandhaug now has scalable, future-ready technology that improves collaboration, supports critical operations and enhances the patient experience.
The background
As part of the development of Stavanger University Hospital’s new campus at Ullandhaug, the ambition was not just to build a new hospital, but to transform how people, technology and environments come together in a modern healthcare setting.
The scale of the project made it a rare undertaking in the region, both in complexity and size. For technology partners involved, it represented a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the most comprehensive healthcare developments in Norway. At the same time, expectations had evolved. The hospital needed to support efficient workflows and seamless collaboration for staff, while also delivering a significantly improved and more reassuring patient experience.
This created the dual challenge of delivering robust and standardised technology across hundreds of rooms and use cases, while also ensuring simplicity, reliability and consistency for both staff and patients.
The solution
SUS Ullandhaug was delivered using a holistic approach where clinical workflows, collaboration technology and patient experience were designed in parallel.
Kinly was responsible for delivering a comprehensive suite of AV solutions across the hospital, covering 900 rooms. The scope ranged from simple meeting rooms with smaller displays and basic audio setups, to highly specialised environments with advanced requirements.
- Standard meeting rooms with intuitive and easy-to-use setups
- Specialised rooms including control rooms, emergency response rooms and collaboration spaces designed to support critical decision-making
- A large, fully equipped auditorium featuring an LED screen, a professional sound system with audio mixer, stage lighting with lighting control and video production capabilities.
Patient experience was also a central focus. 600 IP-based TVs from LG Electronics were installed in patient rooms. These enable patients to watch TV, listen to radio and access important information, enhancing comfort and communication while delivering a greater sense of control during their stay.
Delivering a project of this scale required close and continuous collaboration across multiple stakeholders. In the early phases, weekly coordination meetings were held with construction management, electrical engineering consultants and ICT representatives from Helse Vest. This ensured all solutions were aligned with user needs and spaces were ready for installation.
The project was delivered in accordance with NS8405 and followed strict requirements for progress tracking, execution and documentation. Structured processes and the use of project management systems ensured control throughout all phases.
The result
SUS Ullandhaug now benefits from a future-ready hospital where technology supports both clinical performance and patient experience at scale, including:
- AV solutions delivered across 900 rooms, ensuring consistency and usability throughout the hospital
- Intuitive and reliable meeting and collaboration spaces that support efficient workflows
- Advanced facilities for learning and communication through a fully equipped auditorium
- Enhanced patient experience through 600 IP-based TVs providing entertainment and information
- Specialised rooms designed for critical operations, including emergency and control environments
- A scalable and flexible infrastructure designed for long-term use
The project, which ran from contract signing in summer 2021 to final completion in December 2025, stands out not only for its size, but for its ability to combine complexity with consistency.
Beyond the technical delivery, SUS Ullandhaug demonstrates how large-scale healthcare projects can successfully integrate technology, workflows and human needs to create an environment that supports both people and performance.
